Do I Need a Website If I Have Instagram?

If your Instagram is busy and customers already find you there, a website can feel like one more thing you don’t have time for. It’s a fair question. Here’s the honest answer: keep your Instagram, and get a website too. They do different jobs.
People search Google, not Instagram
When someone needs a plumber, a pedicure, or a place to eat tonight, they usually type it into Google or ask their phone. Those results lean on websites and Google Business Profiles. Your Instagram might be great, but it rarely shows up when a stranger searches for what you do in your town.
You don’t own your Instagram
Your account lives on someone else’s platform. Rules change, reach drops, and accounts get hacked or locked with little warning. A website is yours. Your web address, your content, and your customers’ path to booking don’t disappear because an app changed its algorithm.
Social media is bad at the basics
Customers want quick answers: Are you open? What does it cost? Where do I park? How do I book or order? On Instagram those answers are buried in a bio, a highlight, or a post from three months ago. A good website puts them right at the top.
- Hours and holiday hours, always current
- Your menu, services, or prices, easy to read on a phone
- A one-tap button to book, order, reserve, or call
- Directions, parking, and what to expect
A website makes you look established
Fair or not, a lot of customers check for a website before they trust a business with their money, their house, or their wedding nails. A clean site with your name on the web address signals that you’re real, local, and here to stay.
The best setup uses both
Use Instagram to show your work and stay top of mind. Use your website to turn interest into bookings and orders. Link them together: your Instagram bio points to your site, and your site shows off your best posts.
