Since 1994
Murl Gentry spent 31 years driving a city bus, and every weekend of them in his backyard with a smoker he'd welded himself. When he retired in 1994, he rented the old shoe repair shop on Holloway and put a hand-painted sign in the window.
He's gone now, but the smoker, the rub and the rule about not cutting the brisket until it's ready are all still here. His granddaughter Tasha runs the counter. Her husband Andre runs the pit, and he's usually there by four.
